The construction industry has recently launched a series of action plans looking at how to reduce waste and improve sustainability in the construction sector. The documents cover flooring and sets out practical recommendations, actions and targets to improve performance.
‘The Flooring Resource Efficiency Action Plan was instigated and prepared by the Contract Flooring Association (CFA) whose members include flooring contractors, manufacturers, distributors and consultants from across a wide range of flooring finishes including carpets, underlays, vinyls, rubber, timber, adhesives and flooring accessories. Funding for the project to develop the Action Plan came from a joint partnership between WRAP and the BRE Trust. A Flooring Sustainability Partnership (FSP) has been established to implement the plans.’
Here at Marcias Flooring we have been reducing our waste output through recycling of all usable timber materials and expanding our rapidly growing reclaimed sports floor division where we are proving very popular with domestic customers and architects who are looking for a contemporary sustainable flooring solution by installing uplifted sports floors with the sports lines still intact!.
Along side this we have had enquiries and installed recycled Junckers Sylvasport flooring in school stages, gym halls and multipurpose sports halls where the reclaimed flooring is generally re-sanded and re-lacquered once it is installed. The results are a floor that looks as good as new yet has been saved from a wasteful landfill destiny and given a whole new lease of life.
Here you’ll find a short video about some of our floor recycling initiatives.
