Boen Actiflex at Centre Stage Musical Theatre

Centre Stage Music Theatre request was for a sprung dance floor in oak especially suited for a dance studio. The Boen Actiflex system was the perfect solution being both EN14904 certified and achieving the highest type of A4 classification. Actiflex is an area elastic sports floor with the boards being installed on top of a shock absorbent foam. This sports floor product utilises the BOEN X-PRESS locking system ensuring an adhesive free installation and labour saving due to a speedier installation times.

Due to the clients busy schedule the floor was installed over a weekend, the works included installing the Boen sports skirting to match.

Case Study – Govan Primary School

Govan Road Campus is part of ‘The Three Primary Schools’ project for Glasgow City Council, main contracting works were carried out by City Building and the Junckers sports floors and court markings were installed by ourselves.

The Campus, located only a stones throw from our own Govan HQ is the site of a previously existing school, St Gerard’s Primary. The Campus accommodates 15 Primary Classrooms, General Purpose rooms, and four Nursery Classes. In addition shared community facilities are provided including a Gymnasium, Assembly Hall and drama space, full-sized multi-use pitch and changing facilities.

The flooring tender called for the supply and fit of Junckers Sylvasport Premium grade solid beech flooring on Junckers 57mm BluBat battens.

Once installed we marked out and installed the required sports lines in the gymnasium.

Responding to the market needs Junckers have developed a new generation of sports line paints. Available in 6 different colours, all intermixable if you require any additional or bespoke colours. This new product has faster drying times and a better opacity compared to previous sports paints and has been developed to be compatible with newer sports lacquers.

Junckers HP SportsLine is a two part water based component and is recommended on all Junckers HP sport coated and Junckers pre-finished lacquered floors. As drying time is an important and costly factor when pricing sports lines Junckers are promising that HP sportsline is a one application procedure and the depth of colour and quality of the edges improved.

London 2012 – Mondo Fast Break 2 portable sprung floor

As the Games approach and the venues and training facilities near completion and the finishing touches being applied and many of the sports flooring surfaces will soon be installed. Mondo were confirmed as the Official Supplier of Sports Flooring and Equipment. Mondo will supply the track and warm-up track for the Olympic Stadium, and athletics equipment such as hurdles, high-jump bars and hammer cages. It will also provide surface and sprung flooring for as many as ten different Olympic and Paralympic sports, including Basketball, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball and Goalball.

It should be noted by all construction companies working on the 2012 facilities and team training facilities that Mondo provide a FIBA certified fully portable sprung wood flooring solution – ideal for short term use like many of the training facilities will have to install temporarily.

Wooden sports floors and moisture

For the month of April McKay Flooring Ltd are offering a special promotion to all their trade card holders for the Protimeter Mini Bld2000 pocket moisture tester – a must piece of equipment for any professional considering installing wooden sports floors.

It is essential that any new poured concrete sub-floor is regularly moisture tested to ensure it has dried out enough in order for the wooden flooring to be successfully installed over it and to establish whether a Damp Proof Membrane is required or not. Excessive moisture in drying concrete will rise up into the the back of the wooden sports flooring causing it to cap and expand. This can cause extensive damage and ultimately lead to the floor lifting and being damaged beyond repair. Likewise old properties can experience damp and moisture rising up through the solum and in order to protect the wood flooring it is imperative that counter measures such as installing a sheet or liquid DPM are taken.
